Job Description

We are seeking an energetic and dynamic General Manager to lead our unique dining establishment. This pivotal role requires a passionate leader who thrives in fast-paced environments, drives exceptional customer service, and manages all facets of restaurant operations with enthusiasm and precision. As the cornerstone of our team, you will inspire staff, optimize operational efficiency, and ensure an outstanding experience for every guest. Your leadership will foster a positive workplace culture while maintaining high standards of food quality, safety, and profitability.

Colossus is a bakery and coffee shop, but our Long Beach location is on the brink of expanding into much more. We are just about to open a seating expansion at our Belmont Shore location and will be adding a full-service dining room with an expanded food menu and wine program. Our Manager will work with an Assistant General Manager and a team of leads to deliver exceptional hospitality in both a fast casual and more intimate casual full-service dining environment and will foster the growth of our diverse team.

Duties

  • Oversee daily restaurant operations, ensuring smooth service from kitchen to front-of-house.
  • Lead staff recruitment, onboarding, ongoing training, and development to cultivate a motivated and skilled team.
  • Manage inventory control, food safety protocols, and food handling procedures to uphold health standards.
  • Utilize POS systems such as Toast and Square for order processing, sales tracking, and reporting.
  • Supervise food preparation, cooking processes, and kitchen management to maintain consistency and quality.
  • Staff training and management
  • Management of hosts and reservation oversight
  • Maintenance of daily physical and digital menus
  • Planning for the flow of business dependent on local events, holidays and local happenings at surrounding establishments in Belmont Shore and Long Beach
  • Hiring and scheduling proactively with use of Homebase software and keeping store within target labor cost.
  • Monitor financial performance through profit and loss analysis, budgeting, and cost control measures.
  • Ensure excellent customer service by addressing guest concerns promptly and fostering a welcoming atmosphere.
  • Conduct shift management, staff scheduling, and supervising team members to maximize productivity.
  • Implement food safety management practices aligned with industry standards to ensure compliance.
  • Drive initiatives for team training & development, enhancing skills in culinary techniques, food presentation, and hospitality excellence.
  • Coordinate catering events, banquet services, or bar operations as needed to expand service offerings.
  • Promote a positive work environment that encourages teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Experience

  • Proven management experience within the food industry, particularly in full service restaurants with been and wine service. Casual experience/coffee shop experience is a plus, but we can train.
  • 1-2+ years of experience in managing in an upscale and/or fine dining restaurant
  • Experience in events are preferred but not required
  • Proficiency in restaurant POS (Toast, Square preferred), restaurant reservation systems (Open Table and Tock preferred), Google Suite (spreadsheets and creating documents)
  • Highly organized and an extremely high level of attention to detail.
  • Both self- motivated and excellent time management.
  • An ability to communicate clearly with guests, to listen to guests’ needs, and over deliver in their expectations.
  • An ability to manage and communicate clearly with staff
  • Push, pull, lift 50+ lbs.
  • California Food Manager Card
  • ABC Responsible Beverage Service Manager Certification

May be required to lift, bend, and/or stand for an extended period of time.

This is an exempt management position, and may require a varied schedule. Full availability is required, including weekends.
